Diary Entry #3

Dear diary, its Kora again i've been working as a servant and i've been trying to  get involved listening to everything that has been talking about popular sovereignty and I had no idea what that was until one day this guy who came into the house that I have been working for, he accidentally bumped into me while I was cleaning the dining table. He was reading a newspaper article and he had underlined the word popular sovereignty. When we bumped, his piece of article fell so i decided to pick it up for him and that's when I asked what popular sovereignty was all about. He had told me that it was a document which settlers had the power to determine slavery terretories. I quickly asked him why he had underlined it and he said,"Because its unfair." I was astonished Im pretty sure he has been the one and only man who is nice and wealthy and actually cares about others, especially the slaves or people who don't have any rights like me, and other natives. I couldn't say no more I felt like there was still hope. If he thinks this way they maybe just maybe there are others out there who maybe, probably, most likely feel the same way. He gave me hope and I kinda felt nice for the first time. As I started to leave to the kitchen he followed and said,"I never got the chance to introduce myself, my name is Jack." I kinda felt awkward for a moment, but I politely answered, "my name is Kora."

Thats when I felt something different.

Diary Entry #2

Dear Diary, I have been living in America for quite some time now my life has definitely changed. i now know a lot more than what little I used to know. My life has not been the same ever since Christopher Columbus took us away. At this point, people have explained to me what equal rights are, but we haven't even had any rights. They say the U.S. has been trying to give citizens equal rights. John Locke was a huge part of this because he wanted for people to have rights, natural rights to life, liberty, and property. When I found out that they had added the bill or rights it did not seem fair or equal to me at all. Why? because women do not have any rights neither do the natives including myself, Kora. Slaves had no rights either. I just cant believe how they want everyone to have equal rights, but yet they aren't being fair to everybody who is living in the U.S. As for the colonists they would look at the military troops as a threat to their freedom, I heard that they fear of having them place power in their hands. The colonists came to England to form towns. They built 13 towns over there and fought England.

Diary Entry #1

My name is Kora, I live on the Bahama Island. One sunrise morning, my people and I looked out shore and saw this strange huge thing coming closer to our island then we saw white people coming out of this big huge looking thin, it reminded us of a boat just in bigger size. We saw them and what better thing to do than to run and greet them. One white person came to us, he said his name was Christopher Columbus, I thought that was a pretty strange name. We traded our things, perhaps maybe everything we owned. Columbus then quickly took some of our people including me, to help him learn and get information from the Island, he especially wanted to know where the gold was located at. We sailed with Columbus every night and day. Indians refused to trade with Columbus and so he killed two indians. Columbus decided to take more Arawak Indians to help him find gold. One day Columbus built a fort and called it Navidad he left some crew members at the island with directions for gold. Columbus and the rest of us found out that there was a battle between Navidad sailors and the Indians. We did not find any gold and we have been looking from island to island. Everything went from good to completely horrific. Many of my people died in captivity and here i am still following orders or else i would be dead too. At this point instead of Columbus taking gold he kept taking native people as his slaves.
